House Passes Temporary Funding Bill as DHS Negotiations Continue

The DHS appropriations bill became a point of contention late last month, after several Democratic senators vowed to block it in opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations. FAIR strongly opposes the demands from congressional Democrats to restrict immigration enforcement, measures that would embrace the failed policies that created the border crisis in the first place.

Indiana Poised to Enact Strong Immigration Enforcement Legislation

Indiana is now poised to enact one of the strongest state-level immigration enforcement laws in the country. SB 76, as amended in the House Judiciary Committee, is a comprehensive bill that addresses sanctuary practices, employer incentives, data avoidance, detainer compliance, and legal accountability.

Senator Lee and Congressman Roy Introduce Expanded SAVE Act

The SAVE America Act would add provisions that require individuals to present an eligible photo ID before voting, while maintaining provisions in the original SAVE Act that require states to verify citizenship when registering individuals to vote remove noncitizens from their voter rolls.

FAIR has filed a brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit attacking Illinois’s TRUST Act, which bars state law enforcement officers from cooperating and sharing information with federal immigration law enforcement. The federal government has sued the state over these policies, claiming they violate the supremacy of federal law set forth in the U.S. Constitution.
FAIR Sues New York DMV for Answers on its Issuance of Commercial Driver’s Licenses to Illegal Aliens
FAIR filed a lawsuit against the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and its Commissioner, Mark J.F. Schroeder, for failing to comply with the state’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). The suit, filed in the Supreme Court of Albany County seeks to compel the release of public records related to the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) to illegal aliens and other non-citizens.
