John: On April 7, Wisconsin voters will decide between progressive Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Chris Taylor and conservative Court of Appeals Judge Maria Lazar in a race that will impact the ideological balance of the court, which currently has a 4-3 split.
Wisconsin Supreme Court elections are technically non-partisan, but the impact the results will have for the upcoming midterms is huge. Why? The balance of the court has widespread ramifications for voting rights, civil rights, and a slew of other state policy implications. State Supreme Courts like this one are also often the final arbiters of election disputes, as we saw in both the 2020 and 2022 elections.
There have been a number of these Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin the last few years, and those results have pushed the court to take a more pro-voter, pro-democracy stance. The outcome of this year's election will determine whether Wisconsin expands that progressive majority or if the court slides back towards the suppressive policies of Wisconsin's recent past.
John: Turnout is key and we have to get the word out to make sure every defender of voting rights gets to the polls. Help supercharge our efforts with $35 or whatever you can right now to inform voters in Wisconsin and beyond >> |

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
