Last week, I toured an ICE facility in Stockton. I want to share what I saw.

WATCH MY REACTION » [[link removed]]To give context, my district in California’s Central Valley is proud to be one of the most diverse communities in the country. It’s one of the many reasons what ICE has been doing has been so difficult for us here. People are petrified, and rightly so.
So, I demanded a congressional oversight visit last week to see for myself what is happening at the facility. It was the first time a Member of Congress had visited, if you can believe it.
Behind the walls, I saw the cramped detention spaces, literally the width of me reaching out both my hands. It’s the place where families have been told to "follow the rules" just before being deported. It was heartbreaking to see.
I also demanded answers on why ICE has not been following the law. I demanded details on the conditions and status of the people they are holding in detention. I also told them directly about the reforms that I’m calling for. Unfortunately, I was met with a lot of stone-walling and "non-answers" at every turn.
My plan for ICE accountability is clear:
1. No operations without warrants.
2. Mandatory body cameras for all agents.
3. No masks — agents must be identifiable.
4. Strict limits on the use of force.
5. Zero tolerance for deporting U.S. citizens.
This week I also voted against new funding for ICE and I joined the bill to impeach Kristi Noem. Families are terrified. It’s time that Congress stop being cowards, assert its constitutional authority and stop ICE’s rampage.
