John xxxxxx,

I woke up this morning in a bed that’s a little too short, inside a camper on my property in Hot Springs. It was a sweltering 26 degrees outside.

I've got a story about this campaign for you. I hope you'll read all the way to the end, but if you don't have time, I’d ask you to please chip in five bucks to help me power my grassroots Independent campaign for Senate. [ [link removed] ]

In case you haven’t been following my house-building progress: I’ve been living in this camper for far too long. But as I walked the dogs this morning and looked out at the southern Black Hills, I finally had a moment to breathe and reflect on the past week.

I just finished a statewide petition tour. I spent days standing in below-zero cold, ice, and snow, talking to hundreds of South Dakotans who showed up to help me get on the ballot.

While the weather was cold, the conversations were heated.

The number one issue I heard on the trail—especially after the horrific killing of Alex Pretti—was the lawlessness and violence ICE is demonstrating. People are asking me the same question: “What can we do?”

For too long, career politicians like Mike Rounds have answered that question with platitudes and half-measures. They treat government shutdowns like a game and deadlines like mere suggestions. They’ve allowed the Department of Homeland Security to become a hammer that sees every citizen and immigrant as a nail.

I don’t want to give you platitudes. I want to give you action.

We need a Senator with the spine to demand real accountability today, not just after the next election. That’s why I’m calling on Mike Rounds and the South Dakota delegation to enact a Common Sense plan for justice:

1. Independent Investigation: Kristi Noem cannot investigate her own agency. That much is clear. We need an independent probe into the Minneapolis shootings.
2. Judicial Warrants: No more "unilateral power." Immigration enforcement must require a warrant, just like any other arrest.
3. Border Patrol on the Border: Get CBP out of our streets and put them back where they belong.
4. Uniforms and Accountability: Ditch the masks and the "tacticool" paramilitary gear. Federal agents must carry visible IDs and wear body cameras.
5. Transparency: Follow the court orders and allow Congressional inspections of detention facilities.

Mike Rounds regularly tells us how many steps he walks every week. I want him to start telling us the steps he’s taking to protect the Constitution.

I am running as an Independent because I don't answer to the party bosses who are closing ranks to protect the status quo. I answer to you.

Will you chip in $5, $25, or more today to help me take this fight to the Senate? Your support is what keeps me in this fight. [ [link removed] ]

There's a line from The Shawshank Redemption: "From now on, I’ll write two letters a week instead of one." It isn't much, but it's something—and as long as it keeps you in the fight, it’s enough.

I’m fighting right alongside you. Let’s get to work.
