I wanted you to be among the first to hear this: Today, I’m proud to endorse my friend Amy Klobuchar for Governor of Minnesota.

Amy’s story is deeply rooted in Minnesota. She is the daughter of a newspaperman and a union teacher, and the granddaughter of an Iron Range miner who saved spare change in a coffee can so his son could go to college. Her family believed that hard work should open doors, and that public life should be about responsibility rather than self-interest.

Amy carried those values into public service. She took on powerful interests as a prosecutor, and later built a reputation in the U.S. Senate for working across the aisle and delivering results that make everyday life a little fairer and more secure. During that time, she and I worked together to deliver major infrastructure improvements for Minnesota and for the whole country.

Minnesota now needs that kind of leadership at home. This is a difficult moment for our democracy. Trust is fraying, division is being stoked for profit and power, and too many people feel like the system is something happening to them rather than something built for them. Minnesota deserves a governor who will stand up when values are tested, sit down with anyone willing to help solve problems in good faith, protect fundamental freedoms, lower everyday costs, and strengthen the bonds that hold communities together.

None of this happens without people stepping forward to power it.
