WIRED: DHS’s Data Grab Is Getting Citizens Kicked Off Voter Rolls, New Complaint Says
We filed a lawsuit in October challenging the Trump administration for its unlawful consolidation of sensitive personal information across federal agencies.
The database is notoriously flawed, but some states are now using it to wrongfully purge eligible voters from voter rolls—and it's a direct threat to our democracy.
That’s why CREW recently filed an amended complaint that addresses the thousands of public comments opposing the Department of Homeland Security’s illegal expansion of the SAVE tool, identifies U.S. citizens who were incorrectly purged from voting rolls and harmed by the flawed system and outlines the government’s ongoing violations of Americans’ privacy and voting rights.CREW and our partners are taking action to hold the Trump administration accountable for its illegal overreach and protect Americans’ voting rights. Legal work like this takes time and resources, so if you’re with us, please donate today to support CREW → [[link removed]]

Before 2025, DHS’s SAVE system only contained information on immigrants who’d had contact with the agency.
Our lawsuit alleges that the Trump administration illegally turned the DHS SAVE system into a national citizenship database, pooling Social Security Administration data that the government itself admits is unreliable.
Now, some states are using that data to purge voter rolls, meaning eligible US citizen voters will be wrongfully purged based on inaccurate data from the illegally overhauled SAVE system.
This unlawful data consolidation isn’t just a massive privacy and security risk—it also threatens to disenfranchise even more eligible voters than it already has.
Which is precisely what our lawsuit is trying to prevent.
We’re taking action on behalf of millions of Americans to hold the Trump administration accountable for its illegal overreach and protect eligible voters’ access to the ballot box.
We filed an amended complaint in our lawsuit, and we’re not backing down in our fight for an accountable government. Help us continue to hold Trump and his administration accountable and protect Americans’ voting rights by donating to CREW today → [[link removed]]
