Defend Our Courts has been sounding the alarm about Trump’s plot to rig elections since our founding in Spring 2025.
In our first major race, the ‘25 Pennsylvania Supreme Court election, we laid out the stakes for Democrats: Trump is attempting to take control of the PA state Supreme Court so that he will have control over the court with final say on election-related matters in the most important swing state in America.
In short, we’ve been warning that Trump is trying to control how states run their elections by planting his loyalist judges on State Supreme Courts.
Our critics called us “alarmist.” MAGA called us crazy.
But what Donald Trump announced proves without a doubt that the plot we have been warning about is very, very real:
Trump is now openly declaring his war on free and fair elections.
In the Constitution, it clearly outlines that state governments, not the federal government, have responsibility for how elections are administered. It’s literally in the first Article of the Constitution.
And that means there’s good news and bad news:
The good news: Trump’s call to nationalize elections is so unconstitutional that even the MAGA-controlled Supreme Court is unlikely to allow it.
The bad news: Now that Trump has publicly stated his end goal, MAGA’s going to go nuclear to try and take control of state Supreme Courts across the country.
Defend Our Court’s mission has never been more essential to preserving Democracy than it is now.
In 2026, there are state Supreme Court elections in several key swing states: Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Last year, Defend Our Courts helped spearhead the defense of PA’s state Supreme Court. And Democrats there didn’t just win, they won massive 30+ point landslides. In Philadelphia, where we concentrated the majority of our efforts, turnout surged by 34 percent. That was the largest increase in the state. And it made the difference.
Now we’re taking our winning formula and our army of over 100k grassroots supporters to battle MAGA in GA, MI, and WI in 2026. With the national party stretched thin with House and Senate races, our role will be crucial in saving democracy.
