Tomorrow, 5th Feb, Stop Climate Chaos Coalition members Trócaire and Friends of the Earth will be giving evidence to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy on the proposed Bill that seeks to introduce Liquefied Natural Gas into Ireland's energy mix.

We'll be joining them outside the Dáil from 12:15 to carry the message that the Government can't allow this to go ahead. Will you join us?

If LNG is imported to Ireland it would likely be sourced via fracking, a method of extraction already banned as a practice in Ireland, that has devastating health and environmental impacts on local communities. The bill was first presented with a request to forgo pre-legislative scrutiny and has serious implications on Ireland’s national climate laws.

Thousands of us marched in November demanding an End to Fossil Power. In December over 100 constituents met and spoke with their TDs and asked them to ensure no LNG infrastructure is built. We need investment in renewables. We need an energy infrastructure that secures a safe, clean and healthy environment.

A fossil-free future is ahead if we continue to hold the Government to account and for them to uphold Ireland's climate obligations.

For me, the ever increasing impact of intensifying weather events and flooding is a reminder that there can't be any further delay. Communities in Ireland and communities overseas are experiencing the consequences of climate change. 

Let's remind those in power what is at stake.
