I’m shaken to my core by what we’re witnessing across our country right now.

I know this is personal for so many of you, and it should be. As a former DOJ attorney who spent more than two decades working on immigration issues — including enforcement — I believe deeply that in the United States, the Constitution and the rule of law must guide how federal agents operate.

But right now, agents are operating with too few checks on their authority and too little oversight. I’ve voted against funding bills that expand authority without accountability, because protecting communities and upholding justice is important.

That’s why I’m committed to enforcing true accountability, restoring oversight of federal agencies, and making sure everyday Americans are protected.
