Hey John,
In years past, our movement has celebrated Black Futures Month as a time to imagine boldly, organize expansively, and affirm that Black people deserve not just to survive, but to thrive.
This year, as coordinated attacks on truth, education, and equity intensify, we are grounding ourselves even more deeply in the power of our history.
Weakening our collective memory, our stories, and our people is what white supremacy strives to do. It’s up to our community to defy these efforts.
So this month, we are intentionally shining a light on:
- The histories they are trying to erase
-
The elders, organizers, artists, and freedom fighters who came before us
-
The contributions Black people have made to every facet of this country
- The truth that our future is inseparable from our past
Remembering is an act of resistance. Teaching is an act of protection. And telling our stories from a place of fullness and truth, unapologetically, is radical.
This month, let us remember that honoring Black history is not separate from building Black futures — it is the foundation.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Foundation

Black Lives Matter imagines a world where Black people across the diaspora thrive, experience joy, and are not defined by their struggles.
We are building a future where Black people are free, safe, and able to thrive beyond cages, control, and violence.
To keep this work moving, we need consistency. Recurring donations are how grassroots movements win. Monthly gifts from people like you are the backbone of our work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
In pursuing liberation, we envision a future fully divested from police, prisons, and all punishment paradigms and which invests in justice, joy, and culture. Email is the most important way we keep in touch with our supporters. But we know there's a lot going on.
