Tell Congress to reinstate the National Law Enforcement Accountability

Dear Friend,
Across the country, our communities are living through fear, loss, and
deep uncertainty, not because crime is out of control, but because federal
law enforcement accountability has been erased. When President Trump took
office last January, one of the first things his administration did was
rescind the executive order that created the National Law Enforcement
Accountability Database (NLEAD); as a result, the Department of Justice
shut it down. This database helped ensure that officers with histories of
misconduct couldn’t simply move from one agency to another without
scrutiny. [ [link removed] ]

We are now seeing what happens when accountability is taken away:
🚨Families in Minneapolis are grieving the deaths of neighbors, Renee
Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, killed in federal enforcement operations,
including ICE and Border Patrol actions that have taken place in city
streets, not at the border. [ [link removed] ]
🚨Immigrant families across Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, and other
cities report being profiled, terrorized, and separated from their
children under enforcement operations that feel militarized and unchecked.

🚨Stories of agents being deployed into urban communities without proper
training, oversight, or connection to local public safety needs are
increasing fear rather than safety.

Dear Member of Congress:
We urge you to take immediate action to reinstate the National Law
Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD), a federal database that
tracked law enforcement misconduct and helped ensure that officers with
histories of abuse, excessive force, discrimination, or harassment could
not easily move between agencies without accountability.
The decision by the Trump Administration and the Department of Justice to
decommission NLEAD weakens public trust and undermines public safety.
Without this database, federal agents, including those in ICE and Border
Patrol, can operate without meaningful oversight, and officers with
histories of misconduct can continue to impact communities, including
immigrant families, Black and Brown neighborhoods, and everyday Americans
simply trying to live their lives with dignity and safety.
Across Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, and other cities, we
are already seeing the consequences. Families have lost loved ones.
Immigrant parents are separated from their children. Communities are
living in fear rather than feeling protected. These outcomes are precisely
what accountability mechanisms like NLEAD were meant to prevent. Our
families deserve better. Our communities deserve accountability. Our
nation deserves justice realized, not erased.

We cannot allow this erosion of safety and accountability to stand.
Congress must step in immediately to reinstate the National Law
Enforcement Accountability Database so that officers with histories of
abuse, violence, or misconduct are not allowed to slip through the cracks.
