I’m writing to you today with an urgent update about a troubling trend we’ve uncovered.
High schoolers in Minneapolis have joined the anti-ICE riots!
Defending Education has uncovered training documents and group chats suggesting these student protests are being coordinated by the activist group Sunrise Movement, its members, and aligned unions.
Sunrise Movement sponsors K-12 school clubs and has received funding from donor organizations such as the Ford Foundation, the Tides Foundation, and the Windward Fund. It is even listed as a partner with the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Climate Justice campaign.
The materials we uncovered show that students are being offered walkout guides, “day of action” strategies, and training on how to respond to federal agents on school property.
Schools are meant to be safe places for learning, not recruiting grounds for political activism.
Defending Education is working to restore schools at all levels from activists imposing harmful agendas.
These Minneapolis high school protests didn't appear out of nowhere. It's the result of years of political activism being embedded in schools.
We’re not talking about occasional student expression — we’re talking about organized efforts to pull kids out of class, equip them with activist tactics, and advance a political agenda without parental consent or oversight.
And the training materials are inflammatory!
A “Minnesota Student Walkout Guide” from the Sunrise Movement and UNIDOS MN states that “Minnesota is under attack, and schools are on the frontlines. Our classmates are teargassed, kidnapped or missing. Trump is experimenting on us to see how far he can take his authoritarian agenda.”
A presentation for an “ICE Student Safety Training for Twin Cities Metro Students” includes slides that push far-left narratives.
Defending Education has been the leader in preventing activists from spreading their reckless agendas to our kids.
But here’s the reality: we cannot continue this fight without your support.
✔️ Investigate and expose activist influences in K-12 education ✔️ Publish reports that alert communities nationwide ✔️ Support local parents fighting these incursions into their schools ✔️ Advocate for transparency and accountability in education
