Hi there,
Data centers are coming online so fast that there are no real rules to protect us. Nothing to stop utilities from overcharging us, to make sure there’s enough energy to keep our homes warm. Nothing.
So how’s this playing out? Pennsylvania families are already paying for data centers’ energy demands.[1]
It’s time to keep data centers in check, and that’s where House Bill 1834 comes in. It would protect us by:
✔ Giving the Public Utility Commission authority to regulate large data centers
✔ Making data center operators contribute to a LIHEAP Enhancement Fund to help offset rising energy bills for low-income households
This bill protects ratepayers, strengthens our grid, and ensures big tech doesn’t profit while families struggle to keep the lights on.
I’m optimistic we can get this passed, but anything can happen in Harrisburg. Democrats and Republicans alike need to hear that their constituents refuse to pay for data centers and demand accountability – so please contact your state representative now.

Data centers use enormous amounts of electricity — sometimes as much power as millions of homes.
Utilities are struggling to keep up, and those costs are being passed on to customers through higher bills.
The lack of regulations means that data centers and utilities have been making decisions based on their bottom lines and what’s best for them, and no one is stepping up for all of us.
Someone needs to be keeping tabs on data centers and our utilities, and HB 1834 does exactly that. This bill passed in committee and is ready to get passed by the State House. While it moves through, we’re planning on working with lawmakers to require that data centers bring their own renewable – not just clean – energy.
Urge your representative to vote for HB 1834 and support a stronger renewable energy requirement in the final bill.

Together, we can ensure that data centers don’t jack up our power bills or create worse pollution problems that harm our communities.
Thanks for weighing in.
