RUSH WINTER AID

“I never thought I would give birth living in a tent, in such cold and freezing conditions, with water dripping on us. Water would leak into the tent, pouring down on us. At times, we had to run to escape the water — for the baby’s sake” Nariman shared with BBC News.

Nariman gave birth to her healthy daughter Sila at a hospital, despite the conflict raging around her. Tragically, Nariman's joy was short-lived. At just 20 days old, Sila froze to death in the tent her family shared.

Today, 90% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed and 1.9 million people remain displaced. Families are living in overcrowded shelters or fragile tents that collapse and flood under relentless winter rains, leaving them exposed to deadly temperatures.

For vulnerable pregnant women and infants, the cold can be deadly. Many mothers in Gaza are malnourished, giving birth to underweight babies whose bodies cannot retain heat. Dozens of people, including newborns, have died of hypothermia or because their tents have collapsed on them this winter.

UNFPA is rushing to help families keep their children safe and warm this winter, but right now, women, girls, and newborns need your support more than ever. Will you make an emergency gift now?

“This winter has been very tough for us,” Kateryna, a mother of two in Ukraine shared with UN News.

10.8 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid this winter as ongoing strikes have left families without heat, power, or water in freezing temperatures.

These attacks are decimating what’s left of the healthcare system. 80 UNFPA maternity clinics damaged or destroyed and frequent blackouts from strikes shutting down functioning hospitals.

You can help deliver UNFPA Winter Dignity Kits filled with blankets, warm clothing, and essential supplies and operate UNFPA mobile clinics and underground maternity wards, so women can give birth safely even during conflict.

Please, will you make a gift today to provide expecting mothers, women, and girls with lifesaving care as they survive the cold in conflict zones around the world?
