Tucked among the woods and pastures of northern Wisconsin, the Town of Stella looks like so many rural communities across the state. But beneath the surface lies a serious problem: one of the most severe PFAS contamination crises in the country.
Our new short documentary explores how decades of paper mill sludge spread on nearby farm fields introduced PFAS into Stella’s soil, aquifers and private wells, and even into the local food supply. Some wells have tested as high as 25,000 parts per trillion, more than 6,000 times higher than what the EPA considers safe.
In the film, Stella Town Chair Casey Crump describes what it was like to learn that families unknowingly drank contaminated water for years and the impossible questions residents now face about their health, their children, and the future of the land that sustains their community.
