I’m reaching out to ask you to make a contribution today, but before I
ask, I think you deserve an explanation for why your support — especially
today — is so important.

We’re facing a significant budget gap right now that we need your help to
fill. Taking back Texas requires taking big risks — not playing it safe or
relying on the failed playbooks of the past.

We have to give it our all. That’s what I promised when I launched this
campaign five months ago.

So when I sat down with my team and looked at our internal data, I decided
we had to go for broke. We needed to spend more money on our advertising
and organizing efforts now to put us in a much stronger position to win on
March 3 and in November.

So now we need to raise the money to close our budget gap before January
31. If we don’t fill this hole before our deadline tomorrow, we’ll be
forced to cut back our spending right before early voting starts.

DC consultants would tell a candidate not to take this risk. “If you
falter and have to cut back, it’ll end your campaign.”

But how many losing campaigns have we seen wait until the last minute to
run a real campaign only to come up short on Election Day? You can’t build
a movement overnight. We need to reach people now who can bring their
friends and neighbors into our movement before Election Day.

I don’t follow the DC playbook or do things like a typical politician. I
think Democrats in Washington could afford to learn a few things from
Texas Democrats. We know how to fight — like when we broke quorum this
summer and set off a chain reaction of Democratic states fighting back
against Republicans’ gerrymandering power grabs.

If we’re going to win and shift power back to the people, it will require
taking risks.

I believe in our movement. We’re up against enormous amounts of corporate
and dark money spending in this race. But together, we can do more than
any of the doubters or naysayers in Washington thought possible.
