Our country is at a crossroads, and the stakes of this moment could not be higher.
We are seeing a fascist administration deploy a militarized deportation machine in our streets while simultaneously dismantling the vital health care programs that keep our people alive. These are not two separate crises: they are two sides of the same war on the working class.
They are stripping our health care system to the bone, all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and to fund ICE, the federal agency committing horrific violence against our communities.
We’re not just fighting against this — we’re fighting FOR a solution. This past Wednesday, we held our first Medicare for All National Strategy Call of the year, and almost 400 people turned out to launch our 2026 work to build support for Medicare for All.

We heard from Medicare for All lead sponsor, U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal and one of the newest cosponsors, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, as well as NNU Executive Director Puneet Maharaj, Director of Federal Affairs at People’s Action Institute and People’s Action Megan Essaheb, and Minneapolis-based NNU President Mary Turner, RN, who shared powerful remarks on what’s happening in her city and how we can honor the memory of Alex Pretti.
Our job in this moment is to cement Medicare for All as the answer we demand, and show elected Democrats that it is a winning issue to run on and the only solution that solves the root problems of our broken health care system.
Coming out of this successful first call, we’re kicking off our work to continue building momentum for Medicare for All by calling on federal politicians to choose a side and tell us where they stand.
Whether it’s asking your member of Congress to cosponsor Medicare for All, approaching candidates and elected officials about signing the Patients Over Profits pledge, or simply having conversations with your friends and family, there’s a way for everyone to take action.
