Dear John,
In just a few short years, the United States asylum system has been nearly obliterated, preventing tens of thousands of people from finding safety in our country. And now the administration has found yet another way to turn away asylum seekers: COVID-19.
Under proposed new regulations, the U.S. would bar asylum seekers coming from any country where COVID-19 is present. That’s most of the world! The regulations are unnecessary: we already have health screenings for asylum seekers. And they are cruel - denying the rights and safety of people escaping torture, sexual violence, religious repression and other forms of persecution.
We need your help. Use our instructions and sample language to make a comment on these new regulations.
The public comment period is part of the process for considering new regulations and by law every unique comment received before the August 10 deadline must be reviewed. The more comments that are submitted, the more possibilities we have to delay, change, or stop the regulations from happening.
Thank you for taking urgent action today.
