We just caught Simon taking another pay raise bringing her salary to nearly $400,000.
Plus, 98 per cent of Ottawa’s government executives billed you for a bonus last year while their departments barely met half their own targets.

Governor General’s salary spikes to nearly $400,000
Here’s a simple question Ottawa owes YOU the answer to: How are taxpayers getting more value from the governor general? Because you’re now paying an extra $1,300 a month for this symbolic position.
Governor General Mary Simon’s latest automatic pay raise brings her salary to $393,800.
Simon’s salary was already about five times higher than the average Canadian’s annual wage.
And automatic pay raises are a routine part of Ottawa’s government entitlement culture. Simon, along with all MPs, senators and most bureaucrats, takes pay raises every year.
The automatic pay raise isn’t the only perk of Simon’s job. We’re pretty sure the governor general’s perks are the most lavish in all of government, which is saying a lot…
The governor general can bill you up to $130,000 for their own clothes.
Simon billed you $2,510 for luxury wool suits, $1,500 for a “sealskin chest piece,” $1,117 on six pairs of shoes and thousands more on a blazer, coat, dress and other clothing items in 2024-2025. She even billed you $330 for two silk camisoles, which are undergarments.
The governor general also takes advantage of a range of other lucrative perks that you pay for, including a taxpayer-funded mansion, paid dry cleaning services and lavish travel expenses.
Simon has sparked multiple controversies for spending millions on travel. Her extravagant trips include billing you $100,000 for airplane food during a weeklong trip to the Middle East and $71,000 on limo services during her four-day trip to Iceland.
And it doesn’t end there...
Even after leaving office, former governors general can expense you for up to $206,000 annually for the rest of their lives, continuing up to six months after their deaths.
Governors general are also eligible for a full pension of about $150,000 a year, even if they don’t serve out their full five-year term.

Government executive bonuses cost you $201 million
Bonuses are supposed to be for when you do a good job.
But the federal government continues to reward failure with your money.
About 98 per cent of government executives took a bonus last year and those bonuses cost you about $201 million.
They gave themselves bonuses even though their departments missed nearly half of their own performance targets.
Let that sink in…
They made their own test. They nearly failed their own test. Then they rewarded themselves with more of your money.
That has us wondering … what does a government executive have to do to miss a bonus?
The federal government has dished out about $2 billion in bonuses since 2015, despite polls showing half of Canadians say services have gotten worse.
