It's no exaggeration to say that what happens between today and the midterm elections — nine months and four days, to be exact — will have a lasting impact on the future of representative democracy in America. Generations of progress on issues ranging from climate change to reproductive rights could be gutted. The voting power of the people — particularly in communities of color — could be silenced. 

In the year since Donald Trump took office, the White House and its state-level allies have made it clear that they will stop at nothing to tilt the playing field to benefit Republicans. Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling a special legislative session to force a new map on the people of Florida — which already has one of the most gerrymandered congressional maps in the country. GOP officials in Missouri have been working overtime to undermine a ballot initiative that would prevent them from using a new gerrymandered map. And we’re on high alert for an upcoming Supreme Court ruling that could undo a half-century of voting rights progress.
