Dear Neighbors,

Now more than ever, being together with our neighbors is important. Since I’ve had the honor of representing you, I’ve made it a priority to bring people together; community members from varying backgrounds sharing their perspectives for a brighter future is the best part of our collective democracy.

Nothing is normal right now with federal agents still occupying our state. Minnesota is still grieving the killings of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and various abductions around the state, including that of 5 year old Liam Ramos, who is running a fever, and refusing food at a detention center in Texas. He should be home with his mother. 

I respect different opinions on immigration policy; but Operation Metro Surge is not about lawful immigration enforcement. A federal judge has cited approximately 100 court orders of ICE noncompliance [ [link removed] ]. I echo the words of Minneapolis Police Chief O'Hara that people have had enough, and ICE's occupation here is not sustainable. He says, and I quote, "This is taking an enormous toll trying to manage all of this chaos on top of having to be the police department for a major city. It's too much." 

We can and should rely on local law enforcement and public safety, whom our communities have worked hard to build relationships with. And we MUST have an impartial investigation with our highly trained, professional, and nation-leading Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The families of Renee and Alex deserve justice. Minnesotans deserve peace and accountability. 

I invite you to join me for a community coffee hour [ [link removed] ] on Saturday, February 7 at 9:00 a.m. at the Curiouser Coffee (14889 Florence Trail, Apple Valley, MN) to discuss ways we can support our Apple Valley neighbors during these challenging times. Please bring a canned good donation if you can to help our neighbors who are unable to work or go to the grocery store. As always the format is casual, and all voices are welcome.
