Update From Our Tree Fruit Industry

Image

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Mark, Kate, and Riley with the Northwest Horticultural Council for an update on challenges in the tree fruit industry.

We discussed market access for producers and the need for a reliable, legal farm workforce.

It is no secret that farm country is struggling, but I will continue working closely with this team to make sure we are doing everything we can to bring input costs down and make sure producers are taken care of in the new Farm Bill.

Visiting with Yakama Forest Products

Image

This week I made a visit to Yakama Forest Products in White Swan, one of the largest employers of Yakama Nation.

They gave me a tour of their facilities, where I got to hear firsthand from employees about their workforce needs and how we can work to update the Forest Management Plan.

Yakama Forest Products plays a huge role in the local economy, both on and off the reservation, and I look forward to hearing from them again soon.

Addressing Republicans in Olympia

I had the pleasure of meeting with the Republican Caucuses of both chambers of the Washington State Legislature this week to provide an update from D.C.

We discussed the annual appropriations process, legislation I am working on this term, and how Governor Ferguson's tax increases are going to hurt Washingtonians across the state.

I thank them for their hospitality and wish them the best as they begin the legislative session.
