General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Dear New Jersey,

This week, many of us in New Jersey and around the country were left reeling after the senseless murder of Alex Pretti, an American citizen, by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents in Minneapolis.

As Senator Kim said, “We are united in outrage.” The occupation of our cities by rogue federal agents, including ICE and CBP, must end. Senator Kim voted NO on the DHS funding bill and will continue to fight for real change, so you can feel safe in your communities. We cannot continue to fund Trump’s personal army and their rampant lawlessness.

Kristi Noem is unfit to serve. But it’s not just her—there's a deep rot to the core of this administration.

Don’t forget: When Republicans passed their Big Disastrous Bill last fall, they took money out of your wallet and your healthcare to fund the lawlessness that we’re seeing right now, and the killing of American citizens. If you're outraged about this, you’re not alone.

Working for New Jersey

Fighting to Resume Funding for the Gateway Tunnel Project

Earlier this week it was announced that work on the Gateway Tunnel Project linking New Jersey and New York would pause on Feb. 6th without the federal dollars needed to continue.

Senator Kim put out a statement on the need to resume funding for Gateway as our state and country depends on it:

“We can’t afford to let funding for Gateway lapse. It wouldn’t just mean lost jobs in New Jersey; it would be a massive hit to our economy nationally.

This isn’t a political issue in New Jersey; Democrats and Republicans want to restart this funding. It’s time to protect American jobs, keep our economy moving forward, and restart this funding.”

Helping New Jersey Communities Get the Resources They Need

Last weekend, we hosted a resource fair in Salem, NJ to help residents get support around housing, food, utilities, mental health, and more.

Thank you to the 30 vendors who helped provide resources, the City of Salem, NJ’s 3rd Legislative District, and the Salem County Inter-Agency Council for their support in making this event possible.

Working to Support New Jersey Families

This week, Senator Kim met with leaders from the National and New Jersey Head Start Associations in D.C. The Senator was honored to accept their PROMISE Award, which is awarded to Members of Congress who have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to Head Start and serving our nation’s most vulnerable children and their families.

The Senator looks forward to a continued partnership with Head Start providers to advance this mission and ensure that every child in NJ gets the support they need to succeed.

Working for you at the Capitol

Working to Hold the Lawless Trump Administration Accountable

As a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC), Senator Kim’s work includes fighting to hold Trump’s DHS accountable, as well as the extensive oversight of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

As a member of this committee, the Senator has:

  • Urged DHS officials to investigate federal officers’ use of force in immigration enforcement operations;
  • Advocated for constituents in New Jersey, including seeking information about a proposed plan to establish an immigration detention facility at a warehouse in Roxbury and pursuing better conditions at Delaney Hall for both detainees and facility visitors;
  • Called on the Chairman of HSGAC to hold public hearings with DHS leaders after the murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis;
  • Demanded investigations into allegations of corruption involving Administration officials like Border Czar Tom Homan and detention contractors, GEO Group and CoreCivic;
  • Requested a formal investigation into corruption around Secretary Noem and the allegations that DHS awarded non-competitive contracts to companies with close ties to Noem and other senior officials to create ads for the Department;
  • And much more.

The Senator has also joined legislation like Reuniting Families Act to help reunite families separated by our nation’s immigration system and conducted congressional oversight visits in New Jersey to fight for communities that are being torn apart by this Administration’s immigration policies.

Shining a Light on Corruption in the Trump Administration

Companies linked to Trump Jr. have been awarded multiple lucrative DOD contracts and loans.

This raises serious concerns about conflicts of interests and keeping our communities safe. That’s why Senator Kim is working with Senator Warren and Senator Blumenthal to press Secretary Hegseth and get the answers you deserve.
