In response to a series of deadly immigration enforcement actions — a broad coalition of labor unions, child welfare advocates, faith groups, anti-violence organizations, and human needs organizations expressed deep concern over unchecked use of force, racial profiling, family detention, and enforcement actions that terrorize communities while diverting resources from health care, housing, education, and other vital human needs.
Together, these organizations urge Congress to separate the DHS appropriations bill from the larger funding package, halt new ICE and CBP spending, and impose meaningful oversight and guardrails to prevent further loss of life and harm to communities. MORE »
There have been at least nine other non-fatal shootings by ICE agents in places around the country. People are also dying in ICE custody at alarming rates, with 32 deaths in detention facilities in 2025, matching a previous high of more than 20 years ago.
Renee Nicole Good's death is part of a pattern of callous and inhumane disregard of life and law. Her death and the shockingly high number of deaths and harm inflicted in ICE detention and raids require Congress to stop negotiations on the Department of Homeland Security funding bill until careful investigations. The Coalition on Human Needs calls on the Senate to reject any new funds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal immigration enforcement until federal agents leave Minneapolis and other communities and policymakers can negotiate substantial, enforceable reforms to stop the deadly and destructive practices now harming communities across the country.
CHN opposes a package that increases funding for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) without meaningful reforms. MORE »
