New Report Finds That Economic Conditions Are Deteriorating For African Americans

Coinciding with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies released its annual State of the Dream report ([link removed] ) . Named after Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream Speech,” the report highlights the deteriorating conditions facing African Americans heading into 2026. NCRC Comment in Opposition to PayPal Holdings Inc. Application for Federal Deposit Insurance

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition appreciates the opportunity to comment on PayPal Holdings Inc.’s application for deposit insurance, which is being submitted in conjunction with PayPal’s application to the Utah Department of Financial Institutions for an industrial bank charter (also known as an industrial loan corporation or “ILC”) to establish PayPal Bank. Because the FDIC’s review of the deposit insurance application is a critical component of the overall ILC chartering process, we urge the FDIC to reject this application. NCRC’s Comment On The OCC’s Proposed Community Bank Licensing Rule

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition opposes the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s proposal to streamline the licensing requirements and processing timeline for community banks’ applications. Mergers, change in control, and branch-related applications represent significant changes for banks that impact their abilities to meet community needs and operate in a safe and sound manner. If agencies conduct cursory reviews of these applications, they are likely to fail in their requirements to ensure that banks confer public benefits. [Read more ([link removed] ) ]

CFPB Ends Key Mortgage Alert Service For Banks

Jesse Van Tol, president and chief executive of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, said reduced HMDA reporting would have broad consequences. “Every community would be impacted. HMDA covers 88 per cent of all mortgage originations in the US. It tells us who is getting loans, who is making loans and what they cost. Mamdani Delays Expansion Of NYC Housing Aid Program Amid Fiscal Strain

The City Fighting Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement program, known as CityFHEPS, currently serves roughly 60,000 households, making it one of the largest locally funded housing assistance programs in the country. Mamdani campaigned on a promise to expand eligibility for the program and drop the city’s legal challenge to a 2023 City Council law that would broaden access to vouchers for people at risk of eviction and households with slightly higher incomes.
