After Trump and MAGA Republicans cut funding for public broadcasting, NPR, PBS and many local stations face an existential threat that will hit local communities first and hardest.
According to one estimate, 78 public radio stations and 37 TV stations were at risk of going dark as a result of the cuts.
That means fewer local journalists, less emergency information, and fewer trusted sources of news — especially in rural and underserved areas.
This isn’t accidental. Trump wants to silence reporters who fact-check his lies and hold those in power accountable.
We can’t let that happen. A free, independent press is essential to our democracy, and public pressure is one of the strongest tools we have to protect it.
In 2022, NewDems flipped more competitive seats from red-to-blue than any other ideological caucus. We flipped 5 seats from red-to-blue, elected 17 new Members of Congress, and defended 22 NewDems Frontline members.
