Fair elections depend on fair maps, which require an accurate population count. That’s why we are fighting back against Trump and MAGA attempts to undermine a critical part of the equation: the U.S. Census.

Trump and his anti-democracy allies are levying multiple attacks on the 2030 Census:

-One federal lawsuit demands that the Census Bureau not count undocumented people in determining redistricting congressional districts.
-Another lawsuit wants to end methods that are used to protect participants’ privacy and ensure that people in group-living facilities are counted — and even retroactively revise past figures.
-Meanwhile, the administration disbanded advisory commissions — groups of experts that had ensured the census was conducted based on the best research.

We’re incredibly concerned about the potential implementation of these wildly unconstitutional actions and the impact they could have on the shape of American democracy. When they tried to undermine the census during the first Trump administration, the fair maps movement fought back hard — and prevailed. The Trump administration isn’t being coy about why it’s hoping to meddle with the census. They want to handpick the people who get to have a voice in this country —  just like they’re seeking to do with mid-decade map redraws. But the census is the people’s data — created for the people, by the people, to represent the people. And the Constitution is crystal clear about who gets counted.

Without an accurate count of the people, fair representation in the House of Representatives and allocations for state funding will be in jeopardy. We must stop this cynical, unconstitutional power grab.

The NDRC is fighting back on behalf of democracy on multiple fronts at once. Your support will make an urgently needed impact to defend free elections, fair maps, and a truly representative democracy.

Thank you for strengthening our fight,
