Over the past few weeks, the Trump administration has sent thousands of federal immigration agents into Minneapolis and St. Paul in what the administration says is “the largest immigration operation ever”.
The result has been chaos and violence.
Peaceful protestors have been tear-gassed, children as young as 5 have been taken, and two innocent people have been killed.
This is not law enforcement. It is a militarized operation that tramples constitutional rights and puts innocent lives at risk.
That is why I joined a coalition of attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting Minnesota’s lawsuit to stop these unlawful deployments. We are asking a federal court to immediately halt these actions and restore the rule of law.
The Constitution does not give the federal government unchecked power to deploy armed agents into cities, override local authorities, and terrorize communities. Policing, public safety, and the protection of people’s lives are powers reserved to the states, and we will defend them.
What is happening today in Minnesota could happen anywhere tomorrow.
As Attorney General, my responsibility is to step in when federal actions cross the line and threaten the safety, rights, and dignity of our communities. I will not stay silent while families are put in danger and constitutional limits are ignored.
Thank you for standing with me and for believing that our laws and our values still matter.
Together,
