❄️ Winter Storm Fern ❄️

119th Congress, 2nd Session | January 29th, 2026

As y’all know, Winter Storm Fern hit Northeast Georgia with sub-freezing temperatures and ice over the weekend, causing hazardous conditions, road closures, and massive power outages.

First and foremost, I hope y’all stayed safe and warm!

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to visit our hardest-hit communities — including White, Habersham, and Rabun Counties, to assess the damage left behind by the storm and to meet with local officials and utility providers amidst ongoing recovery efforts.

Here are some highlights:

White County

I’m incredibly thankful to everyone involved in helping with response and recovery efforts in the wake of Winter Storm Fern. From state and local officials to volunteers and Georgia National Guard troops, the quality of assistance and level of coordination have truly been remarkable. I’d also like to give a special shoutout to our hardworking linemen crews who have been working around the clock in dangerous conditions to restore power to homes and businesses.

Please know that my team and I will stay engaged with our local, state, and federal partners as recovery efforts continue, and I remain focused on advocating for our Ninth District communities impacted by the storm to receive the support and resources they need.

Committee Wrap Up

Last week, the House Budget Committee held a hearing entitled, “Reverse the Curse: Skyrocketing Health Care Costs and America's Fiscal Future.” As you well know, our health care system is broken — yet Washington remains divided on how to provide lower costs and better care to the American people. During my remarks, I explained that while Democrats are focused on taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidies for a small subset, my Republican colleagues and I have advanced measures to lower health care costs for all Americans. Additionally, I asked expert witnesses about the fiscal impact if health care spending continues to grow, as well as about fraud within the so-called “Affordable Care Act” — which even some Democrats admit is unaffordable!

District Spotlight

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office recently shared some uplifting news: Retired K-9, Timo, has made a full recovery! Six months ago, Timo was tragically paralyzed by a spinal infection. While his initial prognosis seemed bleak at the time, Timo has been given a clean bill of health after receiving treatment at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Following this remarkable recovery, Timo is now enjoying his well-deserved retirement.
