John,
In the past weeks, the country has witnessed federal agents shoot and kill multiple civilians as Trump’s anti-immigration campaign continues to escalate. Since its inception, there have been 19 incidents in which immigration agents opened fire on civilians and another 36 incidents in which agents held bystanders or protesters at gunpoint.
While civilians pay the price of immigration agents’ reckless and dangerous crusade, the gun industry is making millions in profits from Trump’s agenda. Weapons manufacturers received over $120 million dollars in contracts from the Department of Homeland Security this year alone – the highest in ten years.
The gun industry lobbied for the dizzying increase in DHS funding and they are surely salivating at the further funding potential the Senate is discussing now: Lawmakers are preparing to vote on a funding bill that includes a troubling $65 billion for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including $10 billion more for ICE.
This funding would supercharge ICE’s unchecked violence and we cannot allow it to pass. The vote is expected as soon as tomorrow and we’re counting on activists to speak out today: Please, fJohn, send an urgent message to your senators and urge them to vote NO on more funding for ICE! >>
