John

I hope all of you and your families were safe and warm during last weekend's snow and ice. I'm grateful to all the folks in trucks and tractors who cleared the roads and worked incredibly long hours. When many Oklahomans stayed inside, our first responders and frontline workers still got out in the near-zero-degree weather to serve. Thank you. When we thaw out, make sure to visit small businesses—shops, restaurants, and more. When we stay home, they can't feed their families.

Here at home, political races are heating up as we head into the April filing deadline. Quarterly fundraising filings are due to the Oklahoma Ethics Commission and the Federal Election Commission by the last two days in January for the third and fourth quarters of 2025. There are a bunch of races and people running this year. I encourage Oklahomans to volunteer for local and state campaigns and to give to the campaigns you believe in. We should help the people who take the time to serve. A $10-20 donation to a campaign may not seem like much, but it really makes a difference. By the way, ethics rules do not allow any candidate to use campaign donations for personal use. They all have to go to actual campaign expenses.

Education, energy, and a strong economy remain top priorities for Oklahomans as the Oklahoma Legislature gavels in next week. The Oklahoma Council for Public Affairs (OCPA) has a good read out on some of the bills before the Oklahoma State Legislature on education. You can read more HERE ([link removed]) . Some in our state are also concerned about the increase in data centers and their impact on utilities and more. Read more on that and related proposed legislation in the Oklahoma Legislature HERE ([link removed]) and HERE ([link removed]) in some of our local media outlets.

I challenge each of us to keep up with what's going on in state and local government AND in Washington, DC. What's happening at our city council meetings, school board meetings, and at our state capitol is as important as what's happening in Washington, DC.

Speaking of Washington, DC, the pro-life community once again stood for life in our nation's capital last Friday for the annual March for Life. I remain unwavering in my support for the lives of the unborn.

This week, we are working on funding the remaining six portions of the federal government ahead of our deadline on Friday, January 30, at midnight. Democrats are now seeking to cut funding to ICE or Customs and Border Protection, which puts all of the Homeland Security bill, which includes funding for TSA, the Coast Guard, the Secret Service, and FEMA, at risk. At this point, I don't know what the future of federal funding looks like, but stay tuned. I continue to push Homeland Security to do their job professionally and legally. We need the criminals off our streets, but we also must do the right thing, the right way.

After appropriations, next up in the Senate is the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act. The Senate actually already passed this bill as part of the Defense Bill last year, but it was removed in the negotiations with the House. In addition to the housing reforms in this bill, President Trump is also discussing actions he can already take to open up more doors for home ownership in rural and urban communities. More to come on that bill as well as bills to bring down Rx drug costs and reduce government waste.

The latest installment of my Federal Fumbles will be out soon to highlight more wasteful government spending and abuse of your tax dollars. Watch for that in the next couple of weeks.

Let us know how we can serve you, and please continue to pray for and serve our nation.

In God We Trust,
James Lankford
