Advance Maryland

Friend,

The murder of Alex Pretti, a legal observer and ICU nurse, by federal agents in Minneapolis just weeks after the murder of Renee Good by ICE underscores the escalating violence and harm that agencies like ICE are causing in our communities. This year, in less than one month, ICE has already murdered 9 people that we know of, and this national crisis will only escalate until we say, definitively, enough is enough.

We’re grateful that our Maryland representatives at the federal and state level are taking action to stop this terror, and so can you ➡️ TELL YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS TO ACT NOW!

Left: Delegate Nick Allen’s viral video calling out ICE for masking to hide their identities.
Right: Senator Van Hollen speaking at an anti-ICE rally, sharing the heartbreaking story of a mother in Maryland detained in ICE custody.

🙏Our entire Maryland Congressional delegation – except for Rep. Andy Harris – voted against the Department of Homeland Security budget that would dramatically increase ICE funding. While the DHS funding bill still passed the House, our Senators, Van Hollen and Alsobrooks, have both publicly committed to vote no in the Senate.

At the state level, the 2026 legislative session is underway and our legislators are prioritizing bills to protect our communities from ICE. Legislation to end 287(g) agreements in our state, which allow county law enforcement departments in our state to partner with ICE and deputize their officers as ICE agents, is moving ahead. And a bill to ban law enforcement, including ICE, to mask to hide their identities in our communities is up for a vote in the Senate this week.

The grief is overwhelming, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that we can take action to change things. Join us in taking action: tell our Maryland legislators to pass bills to protect our communities from ICE!

TAKE ACTION: PROTECT MARYLANDERS FROM ICE!

In solidarity,
The Advance Maryland Team
