John,
Last night during her town hall in Minneapolis, a man rushed Ilhan and
sprayed her with an unknown substance before being tackled to the ground.
[ [link removed] ]Headline: Representative Ilhan Omar Is Attacked at Town Hall in
Minneapolis.
Luckily, Ilhan is safe. But let’s be clear: this was an act of political
violence. Donald Trump and the far right have relentlessly smeared Ilhan
for years, stoking hate and encouraging threats against her and other
members of the Squad. This incident is the latest, and proof that their
attacks carry real danger, and we must take them seriously.
As long as Ilhan, Rashida, Ayanna, and Alexandria continue to speak out
bravely against the injustices being committed by this administration, we
know the threats against them will continue. We must do everything in our
power to protect them and their loved ones from every attack, physical and
otherwise, being leveled against them.
[ [link removed] ]Will you make a donation right now to help protect the Squad and make
sure they can keep fighting for us in Congress? Any amount, no matter how
large or small, makes a difference.
Campaign security is a necessary and growing expense for the Squad, and
it’s often paid for using campaign resources — resources that should be
going towards organizing, meeting with voters, and building the kind of
people-powered movement our communities deserve.
It’s beyond infuriating that, instead, campaign funds must now be used to
defend our champions against dangerous incidents like the one that
occurred during last night’s town hall.
But our champions don’t back down. It’s not who they are. In the moments
after she was assaulted, Ilhan had this to say:
“We will continue. These f*cking *ssholes are not going to get away with
this.”
She’s right,
John. And there has never been
a more urgent or important time to stand alongside her and the rest of our
Squad. Because this team refuses to be intimidated, and won’t let anyone
get away with putting them in harm’s way.
[ [link removed] ]A donation of any size today will make all the difference. Together, we
can make sure the Squad has enough resources to stay safe and secure and
to continue leading our progressive movement in the halls of Congress.
