We want to share what that journey looks like. No images? Click here Hi John, At the end of last year, I shared that It Gets Better was preparing to take an important next step, building on what we’ve learned and strengthening how we support LGBTQ+ young people. Today, I want to share more about what that looks like. In 2026, It Gets Better is expanding how we use technology to better serve LGBTQ+ youth. I’m proud to report that It Gets Better was selected as a recipient of the inaugural OpenAI People-First Fund, a grant initiative supporting organizations that are using technology in ethical, human-centered ways. This investment was secured specifically for the continued development of imi, It Gets Better’s award-winning, scientifically backed resource to help young people find affirming guidance, trusted information, and a sense of connection when and where they need it most. Through imi, we’re exploring how technology can help us listen more closely to young people, surface the right support at the right time, and reduce barriers to care, while staying grounded in transparency, youth input, data responsibility, and trust. To be clear, this isn’t about replacing human connection. It’s about protecting it. At the same time, we’re ensuring our team has the tools and training needed to steward this work with care. Our core storytelling, education, and global programming remain central to who we are. What’s evolving is our capacity to deliver our promise of a better world for LGBTQ+ youth. We’re grateful to the partners and supporters who believe in this vision and to those who have trusted us to lead thoughtfully at this moment in the spirit of becoming a more efficient and impactful organization. There are many valid concerns around the implementation of artificial intelligence, particularly around youth and mental health. Knowing this, we are committed to transparency and will be sharing more as this work takes shape. If you're interested in learning more about our plans to introduce artificial intelligence into our work, join me on Substack where I’ll be detailing this journey. My first post is up now. Thank you for continuing to believe in LGBTQ+ young people—and for trusting It Gets Better to keep evolving on their behalf. With excitement for the future, Brian Wenke (he/him) It Gets Better is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.
