John,
We are writing in a moment of deep outrage, pain, anger, and grief.
What Minnesotans are experiencing right now is not normal—and it is not acceptable. Federal agents are acting violently and without accountability in our communities. Renee Good and Alex Pretti have been murdered, and our community members are being violently detained and torn from their families. Fear has been used as a tool of control. And now, Attorney General Bondi’s letter makes something even clearer: this has never been only about immigration enforcement.
The administration’s demands—including turning over Minnesota voter files as a condition for removing ICE from our state—lay bare a much broader motive: federal interference in our elections and our democracy. We are grateful that Secretary of State Steve Simon has been unequivocal: Minnesota will not hand over voter data, and our elections are not for sale or intimidation. We stand firmly with him in defending the integrity of our elections against federal overreach.
So what do we do? We continue to show up—together. We push back against this occupation and interference. We protect our neighbors, our rights, and our democracy. This moment underscores exactly why FairVote Minnesota exists. Our purpose—to build a more inclusive, representative, and resilient democracy—has never been more urgent. A democracy that is concentrated, exclusionary, and vulnerable is easier to intimidate and exploit. A democracy that is participatory, fair, and trusted is harder to break.
That’s why we keep organizing, t hat’s why we keep advancing reform, and t hat’s why we keep building systems that are resistant to abuse.
Ranked Choice Voting is one of the core reforms that strengthens our democracy against the kinds of breaches and power grabs that led us to this crisis. Minnesota is a national leader, and in moments like these, other states are watching us—for courage, for clarity, and for hope. Let’s show them how we show up.
Next Tuesday, February 3, is caucus night —a critical opportunity to put a spotlight on democracy reform across the state. We need you to:
* Attend your caucus
* Bring the RCV resolution to expand Ranked Choice Voting in Minnesota
* Engage in the convention process ahead

Many of you will bring multiple resolutions to caucus, and that’s great. Just make sure RCV is one of them. Change happens when we organize, h ope grows when we act together, a nd resistance works when it’s rooted in purpose.
Thank you for everything you are doing to stand with and support your community at this moment.
In solidarity and resolve,
Jeanne
