If you grew up during the 1990s or before, you may remember that there once was a time when conservatives called federal agents “jack-booted thugs” and viewed federal police with suspicion. “Keep them local” was the refrain about police officers, and there was a lot of outrage about federal politicians using crime as an excuse to vastly expand federal police power. Those days are long over, and we’re supposed to believe federal cops are beyond criticism now.
