(XENIA, Ohio)—Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel traveled to Xenia today for another stop on his statewide WorkOhio Kickoff Tour.
WorkOhio [ [link removed] ] is a new initiative to connect Ohioans with in-demand jobs in their area through personalized support from teams of regional job experts. The program was announced [ [link removed] ] by Lt. Governor Tressel earlier this month.
“West Ohio has a strong network of people and local organizations committed to helping their neighbors succeed,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “Through WorkOhio, we’re bringing those job experts together to make it easier for Ohioans in this region to find opportunities that match their skills, interests, and goals.”

Through the website WorkOhio.gov [ [link removed] ], Ohio job seekers can request one-on-one support from a local job expert in their region or explore training programs, job resources, and career tools tailored to their background and goals. Read more about the program here [ [link removed] ].
Today’s event was organized by the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) [ [link removed] ] – one of seven Regional Job Hubs across the state leading the WorkOhio effort.
“SOCHE is honored to lead this regional coalition of educational institutions, community-based organizations, trade organizations, and other organizations that will work together to help job seekers find great opportunities for employment in our area,” said Cassie Barlow, President of SOCHE. “Through WorkOhio, our team will get to connect on a personal basis with every job seeker who requests help opening the door to their future. We thank Lt. Governor Tressel for leading the way on this incredible opportunity to help people reach their potential.”
WorkOhio’s Job Hubs will partner with a network of “Community Connectors” – trusted local organizations that are already working in Ohio’s workforce ecosystem and know the area’s top industries, employers, and workforce needs. Through WorkOhio, these organizations will work as a team to help Ohioans find job opportunities, training, and support services that match their personal goals.
The initial list of Community Connectors in the West Ohio region [ [link removed] ] includes:
* Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley
* Clark State College
* East End Community Services
* Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley
* Miami Valley Career Technology Center
* Miami Valley Community Action Partnership
* Miami Valley Urban League
* Montgomery County Reentry Office
* Montgomery County Workforce Development
* Omega Community Development Corporation
* Sinclair College
Additional organizations – including workforce organizations, educational institutions, community service providers, and more – are welcome to join the WorkOhio effort as Community Connectors. Many have already expressed their commitment to doing so.
The event was held at Emerge Recovery and Trade Initiative [ [link removed] ] – a nonprofit organization that helps people who are in recovery or those aging out of foster care learn the skills they need to land an in-demand job.
Lt. Governor Tressel visited Emerge [ [link removed] ] last May as part of his work traveling the state to learn about the unique workforce strengths and needs of every region in Ohio – an effort that laid the foundation for the creation of WorkOhio.
