Hi John,
We’re very excited to announce this year’s national conference, focusing on a critical issue of our times. We’ve got an incredible line-up of expert speakers and international campaigners, including the multi-award-winning novelist and campaigner Cory Doctorow, and we’re going to be asking some big questions:
How do we resist big tech and reassert democratic control over digital infrastructure, data and platforms?
What would it mean to design technology around social and planetary need rather than corporate profit?

The technology that underpins nearly every aspect of our lives is controlled by a tiny handful of corporations. These big tech empires surveil and monetise our every move, lock us into their platforms, and use their power to bully governments and shape the world to their advantage. In their search for profit and power they’re fuelling division and advancing far-right authoritarianism, facilitating a vast transfer of wealth upwards, intensifying automated warfare, and accelerating environmental destruction. Yet they still pose as the visionaries of the future.
There is much that is unprecedented about the technological revolution currently taking place. At the same time it echoes older histories of enclosure and dispossession, now unfolding at exponential speed and scale. But the future does not have to belong to unaccountable tech monopolies. By challenging corporate power, democratising digital infrastructure, and putting human and planetary needs before profit, we can reclaim technology as a public good and build a better future for everyone.
Join us to hear from Cory Doctorow, as well as a host of other incredible speakers, and reclaim a future that has been co-opted by big tech.
