Unions across Minnesota join "Day of Truth and Freedom"

On January 23, tens of thousands of people marched in downtown Minneapolis and participated in a daylong economic blackout as part of “ICE Out of Minnesota: Day of Truth and Freedom.” They braved temperatures as low as -20°F to demand ICE leave the state, prosecution of the agent who killed Renee Good, and that Congress reject additional funding for ICE. Dozens of unions joined or supported the day of action, including locals UNITE HERE Local 17, OPEIU Local 12, IATSE Local 13, SEIU Locals 26 and 721, AFSCME Council 5, Minneapolis Federation of Educators Local 59, and ATU Local 1005 as well as Minnesota AFL-CIO, AFL-CIO, ATU, National Nurses United, SEIU, Pride at Work, and more.

AFGE demands resignation or termination of Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller after killing of AFGE member Alex Pretti

“[On Monday], AFGE brought together labor and faith leaders from Minneapolis and across the nation to mourn our fallen brother from Local 3669, Alex Pretti," AFGE President Everett Kelley said in a statement. "Today we demand accountability."
“Our demand is clear: Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was responsible for carrying out the policy that led to Alex’s needless killing, and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, the architect of that policy, must resign immediately. Production workers at Arena Stage vote to join IATSE
|
Approximately 80 backstage production workers at Arena Stage, one of the nation’s leading regional theaters, have voted to join IATSE. In an NLRB election, workers voted overwhelmingly for union representation, with over 85% of ballots cast in favor. The bargaining unit comprised of stagehands, wardrobe, hair/makeup, and scenic workers will be represented by IATSE Locals 22, 772, 798, and USA 829. Read more »
