Folks, it’s John. With the election year officially in full swing, I wanted to take a moment to explain more about why I’m running for re-election. When I’m done, I hope you’ll consider chipping in a couple bucks ahead of our end-of-month deadline to keep this seat blue. Whether it’s $1 or $10, every little bit helps.
I’m not exactly your typical politician. I used to work as a scientist — a geologist to be specific. After our company was sold and I got laid off, I organized and opened Colorado’s first brewpub, helping revitalize a neglected warehouse district in Denver. I found my way to public office because I was fed up with everyday Coloradans’ voices being drowned out by special interests and corporations. My friends and I felt like our elected officials were mainly making decisions to get re-elected, not solve problems for their constituents. I ran for mayor, then governor, and eventually senator, always focusing on the same thing: putting Colorado families first and getting sh*t done. I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished together in the Senate — from lowering prescription drug costs, to defending our public lands, to standing up against Trump’s disastrous agenda. But just over a year into Trump’s second term, Colorado has faced nonstop attacks from the President — and it’s clear there are still plenty more important fights ahead of us. Trump has weaponized the federal government against us for refusing to bend to his will. He announced plans to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, and threatened to rip away child care resources from our state and nation. The President actually vetoed a bipartisan bill passed by unanimous consent in both chambers of Congress that, for the first time, would bring clean drinking water to 50,000 rural Coloradans. This is the first time such a unanimously passed bill has been vetoed by the president since President Johnson. No, not Lyndon Johnson! I’m talking about Andrew Johnson 150 years ago. It’s hard to overstate the unprecedented threat working people and our democracy are facing under this administration — and it’s so important that we do everything we can to push back on Trump and his dangerous agenda. Taking back the Senate this November is a key part of that fight, and that work starts with defending this must-hold seat in Colorado.
