Immigration agencies are off the rails. Help us rein them back in.
Dear John,
In real time—in Minnesota and our own backyards—we’re witnessing what happens when immigration agencies act with impunity. Roaming patrols kill Americans in the street. Masked agents snatch up children on the way home from school. And we’re faced with a government that lies to prop up their immigration agenda at any cost.
But at the American Immigration Council, we are using every tool at our disposal to ensure the Trump administration is held accountable to the law and to basic human dignity. Right now, that work includes:
Fighting to save two gay asylum seekers from deportation to Iran, where being gay is punishable by death. Without intervention, these men could be sent back to face persecution — or worse — simply for who they are.
Holding immigration agencies to account bydocumenting how a lack of oversight and worsening conditions have led to more deaths in ICE custody in the last year than the previous four years combined.
Exposing the truth about family separation, including how President Trump’s first-term playbook — one that inflicted cruelty against children — is at risk of being repeated in his second term.
Defending the right to seek asylum as our case, filed with partners, moves to the Supreme Court to confront the government’s practice of turning people away at ports of entry.
None of this is accidental. It happens because our immigration agencies have been politicized and are operating without any meaningful accountability.
The Council is working to change that — through litigation, research, and relentless public education — so the truth can’t be buried.
