How North Carolina erased medical debt for 2.5 million people
John —
North Carolina is breaking ground in making health care more affordable and accessible. Governor Cooper’s administration worked hard to launch this ambitious effort, and now, under Josh’s leadership, NC hospitals have eliminated over $6.5 billion in medical debt for 2.5 million North Carolinians!
Look, medical debt is not a choice. No American should go bankrupt because they had to go to the doctor. So our leaders worked with all 99 hospitals in North Carolina to forgive debt dating back to 2014 — and now, they automatically discount the cost of care for folks who qualify for financial assistance.
We need to keep this momentum growing — so today, we’re asking you to show your support for NC’s medical debt relief program. Add your name here to say you’re with us >>>
Billions of dollars of medical debt are GONE. And for folks who were struggling under the weight of health care debt, it’s life-changing.
So, how did we do it? Expanding Medicaid was the start. That expansion allowed our state to leverage additional Medicaid funding to relieve hospital debt.
Unfortunately, far-right cuts to Medicaid funding are putting future debt relief in jeopardy.
We need GOP leaders to see that this debt relief program has YOUR support. Add your name now to let them know >>>
Thanks for standing with us!
