Hi John,
The State Board of Education (SBOE) isn't letting a little dicey weather keep them from meeting this week — and as if the social studies standards debate weren't enough, they're taking a preliminary vote on a TEA-proposed statewide reading list. The list includes classics like Shakespeare, Poe, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and — you guessed it! — the Bible.
Like the Bible-infused Bluebonnet curriculum we've been fighting for the past year, this list pushes Christianity while shutting out sacred texts from every other major religion. Unlike Bluebonnet, it would be mandatory. We've got it covered in-person, but here's what you can do to support from home. |
