Working Families Party

John,

We’ve all seen the images over the past month out of Minnesota.

An innocent mother and an ICU nurse, both shot and killed at nearly point-blank range. Masked, lawless thugs threatening anyone they happen to come across, breaking into homes and cars.

These were not isolated tragedies. ICE and other DHS forces under the control of Trump have shot 12 people since November. Dozens more have died in DHS detention facilities since last year.

This is all the predictable result of a Congress that keeps expanding the power of ICE and other agencies to operate with impunity. Just last week, seven House Democrats joined Republicans to pass a funding bill that would send billions more to the same agencies that are now roaming our streets, shooting and killing people.

Too many Democrats in Congress have not been meeting this moment. But next week, for the first time in 2026, voters have a chance to send a leader to Congress who will.

WFP champion Analilia Mejia is running in the first Congressional special election of the year in New Jersey’s 11th district, and her primary is next Thursday, February 5th. Electing her would send a powerful message that we expect our leaders to say NO to Trump’s agenda, NO to ICE’s reign of terror, and YES to a government that shows the same courage that working people everywhere are showing in this moment.

Analilia is a longtime labor and immigrant-justice organizer who has spent decades standing with working families, not billionaires or corporate PACs. She led the Working Families Party for years in New Jersey, helping to lead and win fights for a $15 minimum wage and paid sick time.

She’s helped train residents on how to safely and effectively respond to ICE’s violence, and called for an end to ICE as an agency. And she has been endorsed by champions including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ayanna Pressley, and Maxwell Frost.

This is our first chance in 2026 to elect a leader to Congress who will actually show up for working people instead of enabling more harm against them. But time is running short to make an impact and reach more voters.

Help elect Analilia Mejia before her primary on February 5th:
