| Every day, the Sierra Club advocates for all Americans to have access to our public lands, to clean air and water, to affordable and reliable energy, and to safe and healthy communities. This advocacy depends on free speech, peaceful assembly, and a functioning democracy.
The killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti in broad daylight marks a dangerous descent for our country. Alex was an ICU nurse who helped veterans. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was exercising his First Amendment rights. He should be alive today.
The Sierra Club is outraged by these inhumane and unprecedented actions from the Trump administration. This is the third shooting and the second killing in Minneapolis this month by federal agents. We know these are not the only times they have shot and killed people. Our ability to protect both the human and natural environment is directly impacted. This is a turning point where we must speak out.
We will not be silent and will not look away from this senseless loss of life. We stand strong with Minnesotans and our North Star Chapter. Truth, accountability, and community must be defended to prevail and to preserve our civil society.
The Sierra Club is rising in solidarity to reaffirm our belief in everyone's right to thrive, for democracy and justice, and our organization's love and dependence on our freedoms. We mourn Alex Pretti and extend our hearts to his family, and we encourage you to do the same and advocate for a better country for us all.
