You’re helping us push back.

Friend,
Bradley Heard here — deputy legal director at the Southern Poverty Law Center. I’m alarmed by recent attempts to erode the foundation of our democracy, especially those that target historically disenfranchised Black and Brown voters.
Our voting rights are under attack. Whether it’s restrictions on access to the ballot box, aggressive gerrymandering or attempts to destabilize our democratic institutions, the goal is the same: to force marginalized communities into the shadows and uphold white supremacy.
But thanks to your support, my team is pushing back. You empower us to defend our democracy day after day, year after year.
We’re kicking off the new year full speed ahead.
Our work in 2026 won’t be easy — the threats we face are daunting, and voting rights won’t be secured overnight. But with you on our side, we can power through these active cases and ensure that justice is served:
⚖️ Louisiana passed a law requiring documentation proving citizenship for voter registration, restricting voter access beyond what federal law allows. So, we sued. League of Women Voters of Louisiana v. Landry is currently active in U.S. District Court, Middle District of Louisiana.
⚖️ Florida passed a law designed to eliminate the citizen-led ballot initiative process for amending the Florida State Constitution. So, we sued. The case is moving at lightning speed, and we are preparing for trial right now.
⚖️ In Georgia, we are challenging the use of an at-large voting system that has weakened Black voting power in elections for the Board of Commissioners in Houston County. We have also continued to challenge the Election Integrity Act of 2021, SB 202, which criminalizes voter assistance activities by individuals and organizations.
We’re working diligently alongside colleagues across the SPLC to counter voter suppression bills, challenge blatantly partisan redistricting efforts and advance forward-thinking legislation that strengthens Black and Brown voting power. This critical effort is made possible in part because of you, Friend.
As you know, justice doesn’t happen overnight. Many of our legal cases take months — if not years — to complete. One of the best ways our supporters power our work is by becoming a monthly donor ([link removed]) — a community of over 50,000 allies who have already made the commitment to provide a steady gift to strengthen civil and human rights for all.
With the ongoing threats, there has never been a better time to make a long-term impact on justice and be a force for good. And with a perfect four-star Charity Navigator rating, you can trust that your gift will fuel change. >> ([link removed])
Thank you for standing with the SPLC. Together, we can work toward a sustainable, strong democracy where everyone’s voice matters.
