Hello John, 

We’re writing with heavy hearts and, frankly, a profound frustration at the unrelenting and unnecessary violence perpetuated by the State. Renee Good and Alex Pretti were both killed in Minneapolis during encounters with federal immigration enforcement this month. Renee, a mother and loving wife, was shot and killed on January 7. Alex, an ICU nurse, was killed on January 24.

This is state-sanctioned violence. Gun violence made deadlier by institutional power, secrecy, and impunity. When the government deploys armed agents into neighborhoods and treats communities like threat zones, escalation isn’t an accident. It’s the predictable outcome.

Here is what we’re demanding:

• Full transparency and evidence preservation
• A truly independent investigation
• Clear accountability for lethal force
• An end to militarized operations that put more guns into already volatile situations

Today, we are joining with other organizations by sharing a resource recommended by partners in Minneapolis: Stand With Minnesota, a directory of mutual aid efforts and organizations providing food and basic needs, community safety support, and legal help.

We encourage you to take five minutes out of your evening to share this resource with your networks and to consider donating to the organizations on the ground.

Do not forget:

We can prevent violence.

We can demand the truth.

And we can certainly refuse to accept state-sanctioned gun violence as normal.
