I will continue to use every tool available to protect our communities and uphold our shared values.

This weekend, another U.S. citizen, VA ICU Nurse Alex Pretti, was killed in Minneapolis by ICE agents. It comes just weeks after the murder of Keith Porter Jr. in Los Angeles and Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. It’s heartbreaking, and it’s completely unacceptable.

What we are seeing across the country is a dangerous pattern of escalation. Heavily armed and poorly trained federal agents are being deployed into cities in ways that put civilians in danger, tear families apart, and undermine public safety. When basic rights are violated in one community, it affects us all.

As Mayor of Los Angeles, I led the charge to stand up to this corrupt administration’s authoritarian overreach. Last summer, President Trump used L.A. as a test case to see how far they could go to seize power from local leaders.

We took to the courts to demand accountability, transparency, and compliance with long-standing law. Now, we must continue to stand up and speak out.

What started in Los Angeles is no longer just about Los Angeles. Unchecked federal power threatens people in cities across the country, and we must all stand up against these authoritarian tactics.

ICE must immediately stop this dangerous and unlawful surge that is destabilizing communities and putting lives at risk. I’ve joined mayors across the nation in signing an amicus brief supporting a lawsuit to end the federal government’s mass deployment of ICE agents into Minneapolis and St. Paul.

We will not accept this as the status quo, and I am grateful to be in this fight alongside you.
