[link removed] [[link removed]] John,Over the weekend, masked federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security shot and killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, in Minneapolis. That came on the heels of Renee Good’s killing, also by federal agents in Minneapolis, just three weeks ago.

It’s clear that DHS is not keeping communities safe. It urgently needs oversight and new leadership.

That’s why we’re calling on DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to resign.

Noem has been running her agency and its massive law enforcement apparatus in a manner that is reckless, dangerous and unaccountable to the public, our laws and the Constitution.

She has also faced serious ethics issues, including her apparent failure to report [[link removed]] outside income from a dark money group, and a group tied to Noem secretly receiving [[link removed]] a $220 million DHS ad contract outside of the normal competitive bidding process.

These issues undermine trust in government, especially since she has yet to face any accountability. Congress needs to investigate [[link removed]] DHS, as we called for two weeks ago—but Noem has already made clear that she will stonewall any oversight she may face.

That is unacceptable and incompatible with democratic governance.

These abuses have now escalated to the point where two American citizens have been killed by DHS agents in a matter of weeks.

In the wake of those tragedies, rather than demand answers, Noem has advanced dangerous narratives that were later undermined by videos and eyewitness testimony, shielded the involved agents from any measure of accountability and excused their behavior.

Noem’s loyalty is to the whims of President Trump and her own interests, not the Constitution. She must resign. If she does not, Trump should fire her.

No matter what happens next, we are going to keep a record of the Trump administration’s numerous abuses, we’re going to keep demanding accountability and we’re going to keep challenging its lawlessness in court.

This is a dark time for our country—what will help us out of this time is the engagement of people like you. So from the whole team at CREW, thank you for staying informed, speaking out and defending our democracy.

In solidarity,

Donald Sherman
