Salma was 38-weeks pregnant and forced to leave Pakistan for Afghanistan.
She was on the road and started experiencing contractions while at a tent camp for refugees on the border between the two countries.
“Fortunately, health workers came to provide medical assistance. They brought me to the UNFPA Health Center.”
Because supporters like you make gifts, Salma could access maternal healthcare, helping her deliver a healthy baby girl at the health center.

Over 21 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid and resources are running out. Women and girls desperate to survive are the first to be deprived of critical care. This year, we have only a fraction of the funds needed to operate in the region, deliver medicines and supplies, and open and staff mobile clinics.
Your gift today could provide a girl just starting her period with a Dignity Kit, or a soon-to-be mother with a Mama Kit. It could go toward supplies and medicines midwives need to deliver lifesaving care. You can be a beacon of hope for women and girls surviving crises in Afghanistan and across the globe.

Huma receives her newborn baby from the mobile health team midwife.
Today, women and girls in Afghanistan are being locked out of their futures. Girls are banned from school after sixth grade. Women are denied access to universities, most workplaces, parks, and bathhouses. They cannot receive medical care unless it comes from a female health worker. After the catastrophic August 2025 earthquake, lives were lost because there were not enough female first responders to sift through the rubble and provide hands-on care to save women and girls.
At the same time, both natural disasters and shrinking international aid are deepening a health crisis that falls hardest on women and girls. Their daily lives are constrained, their health is at risk, and the critical support they count on is disappearing.
In many rural regions, the nearest midwife or doctor is hours away by foot — a journey that is often too long to wait and too late to save a life. They have nowhere to turn in the event of an emergency. From UNFPA mobile clinics and safe spaces to Dignity Kits and prenatal treatment for mothers and their newborns, compassionate supporters like you are making gifts that make this urgent care possible.
Will you make a gift today to fund mobile clinics, trained female responders, Dignity Kits, and prenatal care so women and girls in Afghanistan and humanitarian emergencies have somewhere to turn when it matters most?
Thank you for being there for women, girls, and the healthcare workers who care for them.
